GREENSBORO –East Bladen senior Eian Hines flew 23 feet, 2.25 inches Saturday to claim second place in the long jump at the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s Class 2-A state championships at North Carolina A&T State University.

Hines, who missed out on a first-place jump by just three-quarters of an inch, helped to lead the Eagles to a 10th-place finish in the team competition. The North Brunswick Scorpions took the overall team title with 69 points — East Bladen finished the meet with 21 points.

Hines’ twin brother Ethan earned fifth place in the long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 7.75 inches.

The Eagles got another top-three finish when the East Bladen 4×100-meter relay team — Travaris Carter, C.J. Murphy, Eian Hines and Ethan Hines — claimed third place with a time of 43:39, just 1.15 seconds behind the winning Forest Hills team.

Atlas Goss gave East Bladen a sixth-place finish in the discus with a heave of 135 feet, 6 inches — 13 feet, 3 inches behind the winning toss.
