ST. PAULS — The Lady Knights earned their first volleyball “W” of the young season with a 3-1 victory over St. Pauls on Tuesday by the scores of 25-18, 18-25, 25-17 and 25-14.
“The girls played well,” said West Bladen coach Gaye Davis. “They are coming around.”
Morgan Schumacher led the way for West Bladen with 12 service winners, two aces, two blocks and three kills. Lorna Smith whacked in seven aces among her 11 service points and added six kills. Kassidy Anderson also had 11 service points along with four aces, and Logan Autry contributed 10 service points,four aces and five kills.
Kathryn Schultz added a pair of aces and two kills.
— In St. Pauls on Tuesday, the Knights fell to the Bulldogs, 5-3.
West Bladen took a 1-0 lead early in the match on a goal by Ozil Munoz, but St. Pauls answered with a pair of goals late in the first half to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.
Seth Britt tallied a pair of quick goals early in the second half to put the Knights up 3-2, but the Bulldogs responded with two goals that gave them the win.
— In Dublin on Tuesday, West Bladen was able to complete a match and handed visiting West Columbus an 8-1 loss.
The Lady Knights got singles wins from Alanna Ludlum at No. 1 by an 8-3 score; Amber Long at No. 2 by an 8-1 verdict; Madison Singletary at No. 4 by an 8-1 score; Haley Dimery at No. 5 in an 8-0 whitewashing; and Rachel Bryan at No. 6 in an 8-0 shutout.
In doubles, West Bladen’s sweep was led by the No. 1 duo of Ludlum and Long, 8-2, and followed at No. 2 by win by the team of Jordan Staton and Hannah Arnett, 8-4; and completed at No. 3 by the tandem of Conner Brisson and Savannah Lee, 8-3.
