ELIZABETHTOWN — East Bladen plated nine runs in the fourth inning on Tuesday to erase a three-run deficit and coasted to a 14-6 Four County Conference win over visiting Heidi Trask.

The Eagles are now 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

Starting pitcher Sincere Smith spent six innings pitching in and out of trouble, from behind and ahead, but helped his own cause with a two-run triple in East Bladen’s big inning and earned the win on the hill.

After Smith pitched out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam to start the game, the Eagles broke out on top first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning when Smith worked a one-out walk, stole second base, went to third on a passed ball and scored on Kyle Tatum’s RBI single. Xavier Wooten was hit by a pitch and an error allowed Tatum to race home for a 2-0 lead.

The Titans cut the deficit in half with a run in the second inning, then added two more runs in the third inning to take a 3-2 edge.

That lead grew to 5-2 in the top of the fourth when Heidi Trask plated two more runs, but the Eagles sent 15 batters to the plate and nine came around to score. Smith’s two-run triple to deep center was the big hit of the frame, but Wooten had an RBI single, Tyler Watkins stroked an RBI single, Brooks McGill had an RBI single and Tatum had an RBI on a Titans error to give East Bladen an 11-5 lead.

The Eagles tacked on a run in the fifth inning when McGill sliced a two-out single, Greyson Heustess crushed a double to send McGill home for a 12-5 lead.

Heidi Trask scored a run in the top of the sixth to cut the gap to 12-6, but the Eagles plated a pair of runs without the benefit of a hit in the home half of the sixth. Smith was hit by a pitch for the second time in the game, Tatum walked, Wooten was hit by a pitch to load the bases, a botched fielder’s choice off the bat of Wooten scored a run and Watkins added a fielder’s choice RBI.

Smith went six innings on the mound for the win, giving up six runs on 10 hits, three walks and striking out five. Wooten finished up, going one inning and giving up a walk and fanning one.

At the plate, Heustess was 2-for-3 with two RBI; McGill was 2-for-4 with an RBI; Smith was 1-for-2 with a triple, two stolen bases and two RBI; Tatum was 1-for-2 with three walks and two RBI; and Deondre Newkirk was 2-for-4.

The Eagles will travel to face Wallace-Rose Hill on Friday at 7 p.m.
