ROCKY POINT — West Bladen pitching struck out 11 Heidi Trask hitters and gave up just six hits Friday as the Knights went on the road and took a 6-1 Four County Conference win.
West Bladen improved to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference with the victory.
The Knights got on the board quickly with three runs in the top of the first inning. Weston Pidgeon started things with a single, stole second base and, when T.J. Guyton beat out an infield dribbler, an error on the play brought Pidgeon home. Jarrett Williams followed with a long triple to bring home another run and Trent West laced an RBI single for a 3-0 lead.
In the second inning, Hunter Pait singled and came around to score on a run-scoring single by Guyton.
After two scoreless inning, the Titans avoided a whitewash with a run in the home half of the fifth inning. But West Bladen answered with two runs in the top of the sixth when Pait walked, moved to second on a balk and came home on an RBI single by Guyton. After Guyton went to second on the throw home, he was brought to the plate by Williams’ run-scoring single for a 6-1 edge.
West earned the win on the hill for West Bladen, going five innings and giving up a run on four hits and striking out nine. Scott Bowen finished up, going two innings and giving up two hits with two strikeouts.
Guyton led the Knights’ 11-hit attack, going 3-for-4 with two RBI; Williams was 2-for-2 with the triple and two RBI; Caleb Sholar was 2-for-4.
The Knights will go back on the road Tuesday for a conference game at Pender County at 7 p.m.
