ELIZABETHTOWN — East Bladen snapped a four-game losing skid and broke into the Four County Conference win column on Friday with a convincing 68-49 win over visiting Union.

The victory improved the Eagles to 2-13 overall and 1-5 in the conference. Union falls to 0-12, 0-6.

East Bladen burst out of the gate with an 8-0 run fueled by a bucket and two free throws by Adonis Avery, then withstood an 8-0 spurt by the Spartans to take an 11-10 edge after the first quarter.

The two teams battled back and forth through the second stanza, but the Eagles got a three-pointer from both Denzel Johnson and Eian Hines and used a 16-6 advantage in the first 5 minutes of the second stanza to open a 27-16 lead. But Union went on an 8-0 run to close the half and cut the deficit to 27-24 at the intermission.

East Bladen came out of halftime refocused and used a 17-10 run through the third quarter, fueled by a three-pointers by Demetrius Wooten and Avery, to open a 44-34 lead going into the fourth frame.

But the Eagles were just getting warmed up.

East Bladen used a three-pointer from Avery and Johnson — along wit four free throws by Xavier Wooten and three by Hines — to win the quarter 24-15 and seal the 19-point win.

The Eagles were led by Demetrius Wooten with 20 points, followed by Hines with 14 points and 10 boards, and Avery added 14 points. Denzel Johnson scored 10 points for East Bladen and Xavier Wooten grabbed nine rebounds in the game.

The Eagles will host Fairmont in a non-conference game Wednesday at 6 p.m., then travel to Midway for a conference game on Friday at 8 p.m.
