East Arcadia student earns special scholarship
by Valerie Newton
Special to the Journal

RIEGELWOOD — The College Foundation of North Carolina has presented the Victor E. Bell Jr. Scholarship award to Tamara Moore, a seventh-grade student at East Arcadia School. This scholarship recognizes Moore’s academic achievement and potential for future success in college.

This is the first time that a student at East Arcadia School has been the recipient of the Bell Scholarship and the second time that a student nominated by Ronald Coley has won the scholarship.

The Foundation established the Bell Scholarship to encourage students with potential to aspire to a college education. Bell served as chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees for 30 years. This scholarship honors his vision and selfless service and will enable new generations of North Carolina students to enhance their potential and future contribution to North Carolina.

The scholarship carries a value of $2,000 for this year and will be placed into a 529 college savings account in North Carolina’s National College Savings Program for Moore. As long as she continues to achieve academic success and satisfy all other Bell Scholarship requirements, an additional $2,000 will be put in college savings for her each school year, up to and including the fourth year of college.

That will give Moore a total scholarship award of $20,000 to assist her in attending the North Carolina college or university of her choice.
