Bladen man charged with statutory rape, abduction

ELIZABETHTOWN — A Bladen County man has been arrested and charged with two counts of statutory rape and two counts of abduction of a child.

According to Capt. Rodney Hester of the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office, the man allegedly had sexual relations with a 14-year-old girl. He said the girl’s mother found a letter from the man and confronted her before notifying authorities.

“The girl told her mother that her relationship with the man had begun with friendly text messages that escalated into a more explicit nature,” Hester reported. “The two planned to meet before school on two occasions, and the man had picked her up while she was at the bus stop before school between Jan. 19 and Jan. 26.

“On one of the mornings, the girl said, the two engaged in sexual intercourse.”

Investigators arrested Donald Mac Moore III, 22, of 118 Bertha Blue Road, on March 1 and charged him with two counts of statutory rape and two counts of abduction of a child.

Moore was released from the Bladen County Jail after posting a $100,000 secured bond.
