The Three Rivers Federation land judging contest was held on November 30 on the Henry Jenkins farm in Columbus County. The Federation includes high schools from Bladen and Columbus counties.

The land judging competitions are held each year nationwide for high school students to learn about soils and their limitations for certain uses. Whether an individual intends to farm the land or simply buy a house on a small lot, soils limitations are of the utmost importance to the landowner or potential buyer.

Bladen County's first place winner was the East Bladen High School Team with a score of 701. The second place team from Bladen was the West Bladen High School Team with a score of 453. The individual high scorer in the county was William Bratt of the East Bladen Team with a score of 246.

Team advisors for the two teams were David Gooden for the East Bladen Team and Dana Melvin for the West Bladen Team.
