ELIZABETHTOWN - Edna B. Pridgen Smith died Tuesday, September 2, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Elizabethtown. She was 89.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mayberry Smith; her parents, Eddie G. Pridgen and Lilly Watters Pridgen; and her stepmother, Maggie Taylor Pridgen.
Mrs. Smith was born in Kelly and educated in Kelly and Wilmington. She began her working career with Belk's in both Wilmington and Elizabethtown and while there named the Belk's newsletter, "The Busy Bee." She also worked for the Elizabethtown Draft Board and was employed by both Goldston and Crystal Beaches. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club, the American Business Women's Association, and Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker who loved to dance.
The funeral service was held Thursday at 11 a. m. at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Revs. Donald Warren and Randy Jordan officiating. Burial followed in the Old Trinity Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith is survived by a son, Eddy Arnold Smith of York, S. C.; a sister, Mary P. Gillespie of Norfolk, Va.; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
