October is Roger’s month in Bladen County

With the arrival of October and cooler weather beginning to set in, it is now time for the fourth annual “Roger’s Wish” project at the Bladen Journal.

As one of the annual contributors to this event, I would like to urge everyone to please donate to this worthy cause. Please bring your donations of new or gently used blankets and sleeping bags to the Bladen Journal office.

We have so many in need around our area. Each year your donations benefit literally hundreds of people in our county, helping them to keep warm during the winter months.

This event is named after it’s founder, the late Roger Grunder of Elizabethtown. He had lived homeless for about 19 years and he wanted to help those around him who were in need.

Roger left us on Aug. 30, 2013, at the age of 39. For all of us who knew him, we vow each year to continue this mission in his memory.

Each October, we honor the man who always had a smile for everyone and a helping hand for anyone in need.

Thank you and God bless you.
