DUBLIN — The West Bladen Knights scored in five of six innings and outlasted visiting Reidsville for an 8-6 win on Wednesday in the first round of the state’s Class 2-A playoffs.
The win improved West Bladen to 12-10 and sends them to Leland for the second round on Saturday against old conference foe North Brunswick.
The Knights plated three runs in the bottom of the first, sparked by an RBI double by Trevor Lesane and two-run triple by Parker Allen.
Each team scored a single run in the second and the Rams knotted the score at 4-4 in the top of the third before West Bladen scored a run in the home half for a 5-4 edge.
The Knights added a single run in the fourth but, after a scoreless fifth, Reidsville knotted the game again in the top of the sixth with two two runs.
But West Bladen got an RBI triple by Lesane, who hit the base of the fence in dead center, 400 feet away, and Clay Allen laced an RBI single to put West Bladen up 8-6.
Allen, who came on late in the game in relief of starter Liston Britt, finished up and earned the win.
