CLINTON — West Bladen got a stellar pitching performance from Liston Britt and the Knights pounded Four County Conference foe Clinton for a 9-1 win on Tuesday.

The only real damage the Dark Horses could manage against Britt came early, when a walk and three singles gave the home team what would be its long run of the game in the bottom of the first inning.

But the 1-0 deficit didn’t hold up long for West Bladen, as doubles by Parker Allen and John Waldrop knotted the score and an error gave the Knights a 2-1 edge they would never surrender.

After a scoreless third, West Bladen plated four runs in the fourth sparked by another double by Waldrop, a handful of Clinton misplays and finished up with a two-run triple by Trevor Lesane for a 6-1 lead.

West Bladen put three more runs on the board in the sixth on singles from C.J. Singletary and Lesane, an RBI double by Clay Allen, a wild pitch that sent a run home and an RBI single by Britt.

Britt earned the win on the hill by pitching a complete-game six-hitter, striking out 11 along the way.

Waldrop led the Knights’ 14-hit attack by going 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI, while Lesane was 3-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBI. Parker Allen was 2-for-4 with a double and Clay Allen had a double and RBI.

“The girls did a lot better with pitch selection,” said West Bladen coach Pam Stephens. “I’ve told them that we have the pitching and we have the defense … we just need to get those bats to come around and we’ll be just fine.”

Josie Ludlum was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, while Laikyn Pait was 2-for-3 with two RBI and Taylor Stephens was 2-for-4 with an RBI and four stolen bases. Courtney Thompson added a triple and two RBI.
