DUBLIN — Courtney Thompson and Taylor Stephens got back to being the one-two punch for West Bladen on Friday, leading the Lady Knights to a 49-33 Four County Conference win over Union.
The victory snapped a three-game skein by West Bladen and improved the Lady Knights to 10-5 overall, 5-3 in the conference.
With Thompson controlling the boards for both rebounds and put-back points, West Bladen opened the game with a 20-11 first-quarter surge.
Things slowed in the second stanza, but the Lady Knights managed to extend the lead by outscoring the Lady Spartans 8-4 and taking a 28-15 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, it was quickly evident that West Bladen’s adjustments during intermission were better than Union’s, as the Lady Knights put 15 pints on the board and held the Lady Spartans to eight — ballooning the lead to 43-23.
Union outscored West Bladen b y a 10-6 margin in the fourth quarter, but never threatened the Lady Knights’ lead.
Thompson led West Bladen with her 13th double-double of the season, scoring 20 points and pulling down 21 rebounds. Stephens contributed 11 points for the Lady Knights.
Stevens and Laikyn Pait had the only two West Bladen three-pointers.
