ELIZABETHTOWN — The Lady Eagles were put on the shoulders, or at least in the powerful right hand, of Abbey Norris on Thursday and defeated Clinton in a Four County Conference volleyball match in four games.

Norris lit of the scorebook with 12 service points behind six aces and also had a pair of blocks. But her finest work came at the net, where she tallied a total of 25 kills to lead the Lady Eagles.

— In Lumberton on Thursday, the Pirates won their fifth straight match with a 2-0 shutout of East Bladen in a non-conference matchup.

Lumberton outshot the Eagles by a 13-8 margin, and Matt Massengill was credited with nine saves in the East Bladen nets.

The Eagles’ best chance at a goal came early in the second half when a shot bounded off the crossbar and away from East Bladen attackers. The goal would have knotted the match — instead, the Pirates added a second goal later in the half to seal the win.

— In Dublin on Thursday, West Bladen put together a strong effort against Four County Conference leader Clinton before getting nipped, 5-4.

“I thought our girls played very well,” said West Bladen coach Jeff Atkinson. “We played them about three weeks ago in Clinton and they defeated us 7-2. Today, we were able to maintain longer rallies and stay in each match longer.”

The two teams split the six singles matches, with the Lady Knights getting Ws from Alicia Avellaneda at No. 2 (4-6, 6-2, 10-8), Madison Staton at No. 3 (6-4 and 7-5) and Alanna Ludlum at No. 4 (7-5, 1-6, 10-5).

In doubles action, West Bladen got a win from the tandem of Staton and Alanna Ludlum at No. 2 by the score of 8-6.
