SURPRISE, Ariz. — East Bladen grad Saquan Johnson temporarily broke out of his slump with a big game on Friday against the Arizona Giants.

Johnson, a 28th-round draft pick of the Texas Rangers, had found the going tough in his previous 20 at-bats in the Arizona Rookie League.

After getting a day off on Thursday — a 4-3 loss to the Giants — Johnson found his stroke the following day. Following a strikeout in the third inning, Johnson doubled and scored in the fifth inning, then doubled again in the sixth inning and driving in two runs.

He fanned in the eighth inning of the Rangers’ 7-4 loss to the Giants.

On Sunday, Johnson went 0-for-3 in a 2-0 loss to the Indians.

The Arizona Rangers are 31-22 overall this season and Johnson is batting .222.
