ELIZABETHTOWN — Rain caused the cancelation of the fourth annual Bladen County Buddy Burney Memorial Football Jamboree on Friday at West Bladen High, but the Eagles of East Bladen High quickly put together a one-on-one scrimmage with West Columbus High at the Eagles’ Nest.

“We saw what East Bladen went through with their field last year (when the Jamboree was played there on a wet field), and didn’t want to go through that,” said West Bladen coach Russell Dove. “Plus, there’s a much-larger chance for injuries under those conditions.”

Eagles coach Robby Priest, however, wanted to see his East Bladen team go up against someone else, and managed to get Vikings coach Mark Little to bring his team from Cerro Gordo to Elizabethtown.

According to reports, West Columbus brought a big, talented team to face the Eagles and impressed Priest.

East Bladen will go on the road Friday for its 2013 opener against Fairmont High.
