— Pushing Back the Dark, a county youth event, will be held at Elizabethtown Middle School from 7 p.m. until midnight. The Justin Teseniar Band will be in concert. — The Mt. Olive Mass Choir will be sponsoring Joy Night service at Mt. Olive A.M.E. Zion church, Pastor Haywood Oliver at 6 p.m. Several choirs and praise team dancers will be on program. We are inviting everyone to come out and let’s have a joyous time in the Lord. Mt. Olive AME Zion Church is located at 32 Mt. Olive Road in Elizabethtown.

May 15

— Elizabethtown Christian Educational Ministries Day School’s end of the year program will be held in the sanctuary of Elizabethtown Baptist Church at 3 p.m. An open house for the entire Academy-Day School through the eighth grade will be held immediately afterwards at 3:30 p.m. Everyone interested in Elizabethtown Christian Educational Ministries is invited to attend.

— Center Road Baptist Church will host its second annual Law Enforcement Sunday. We invite all law enforcement officers and their families to worship with us and stay for lunch.

— Women’s Day will be observed at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Council at 11 a.m. Guests will be the Rev. Pia Jessup and Miller Chapel AME Zion Church of Garland. Everyone is invited to attend.

— Salem Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, located at 9494 Mercer Mill Brown Marsh Road in Clarkton, will have their 82nd Homecoming. There will be special music by Tina and Caitlin Davis, Rachel Sessoms, and Johnny Tyler beginning at 10 a.m. The guest speaker will be Reverend Cory Nance. Lunch will be served following the service in the fellowship hall. Everyone is invited.

— Carvers Creek AME Zion Church in Council will celebrate Woman’s Day at 11 a.m. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Fannie Dooley, an evangelist from the Clarkton District and Cafe Fear Conference. The combined women’s gospel choirs of Carvers Creek AME Zion and Trinity AME Zion churches will perform. Lunch will be served following the service. The public is invited.

— The Ushers of Sandhill Missionary Baptist Church, located at 16920 Twisted Hickory Road in Bladenboro, will celebrate their anniversary at 4 p.m. Pastor Cathy Monroe from Greater Tabernacle Church Ministries in Longwood will deliver the message. All visiting ushers are asked to be dressed in black, white, or black and white. Refreshments will be served.

May 21

— Whites Creek Missionary Baptist Church, located at 6838 Airport Road in Lisbon, will be having a Joy Night sponsored by all the choirs of of the church. Joy Night will consist of choirs and soloists coming together for a Gospel Good Time. Everyone is invited.

Zion Church, located at 410 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Bladenboro, will have a candle light march at 4 p.m. Guest speaker will be Mrs. Zella Johnson, Chairman of the Life Members Council for the Clarkton district. May 22

— The Rev. (retired) Robert Skirving, bishop of The Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina, will celebrate Holy Eucharist at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 2606 West Broad St., Elizabethtown,at 10:30 a.m. Please join us in celebration of our Lord Jesus Christ.

— St. James Untied Holy Church, located at 917 Braddy Plantation Road Council, will celebrate Women’s Day 2016. The Apostle Gwendolyn Wilson will be the guest speaker. The service begins at 11 a.m. Everyone is invited.

— The Steward Board of Mt. Olive A.M.E. Zion Church and Pastor Rev. Haywood Oliver will be sponsoring an evening program at 3:30 p.m. with speaker Rev. James T. McDowell of Zion Chapel A.M.E.Zion Church of Lagoon along with his choir and congregation. Mt. Olive AME Zion Church is located at 36 Mt. Olive Road in Elizabethtown. May 29

— Sandhill Missionary Baptist Church, located at 16920 Twisted Hickory Road in Bladenboro, will have its birthday celebration for April, May and June at their 11 a.m. worship service.

June 4

— St. Luke A.M.E. Zion Church, located at 410 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Bladenboro, will present a last day of school Biblical carnival from noon until 4 p.m. Wristbands and tickets will be for sale. For more information call 910-231-9583.

June 5

— Center Road Baptist Church’s annual VBS will start today and run daily through Thursday, June 9. A meal will be served each night beginning at 5:3 p.m. An adult class will be taught by the Rev. David Rutland for ages 18 and above. This year’s theme is “Submerged.”

— Tar Heel Baptist Church will have VBS through Friday the 10th. There will be a meal served at 6 p.m each night. There will be Bible Study, games, crafts, music, and water slides for kids and youth. There will be Bible Study and crafts for the adults. Friday night will be our VBS celebration where parents can come enjoy dinner and see what their kids have learned through Bible Study, music, crafts, and recreation all week. Everyone is invited and transportation is available.

— Clarkton Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church will host its 63rd annual homecoming. At 10 a.m. Jerri and Larry Mercer will share their talents of gospel singing; at 11 a.m. our guest speaker will be the Rev. Preston Heath of the PFWB Conference Headquarters in Dunn; at noon a covered dish lunch will be served in the Fellowship Hall. June 18

— Mt. Olive A.M.E. Zion Church will be having a church bazaar starting at 7 a.m. Different items will be available, along with food and bounce houses for the kids. Please stop by at 32 Mt. Olive Church Road in Elizabethtown. The event will be held across from the church.
