— Jan. 31, 1968: A four-alarm blaze completely guts Smith’s Drug Store in Elizabethtown, causing up to $100,000 in damages. Firefighters from Elizabethtown, Clarkton, Whiteville and Lumberton battled the blaze.
— Jan. 31, 1979: Toni Childress is crowned the new Bladenboro FFA Sweetheart by North Carolina FFA Sweetheart Dianne Nobles.
— Feb. 1, 1988: Elizabethtown Police raid five illegal liquor houses as part of an undercover operation with agents of the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement. The raid netted seven arrests and charges ranged from selling alcohol illegally to possession of marijuana.
— Jan. 30, 2004: Bladen Community College sets a new enrollment record for the sixth straight semester. A total of 1,435 students are enrolled for the spring semester, 11 more than the fall semester.
— Jan. 30, 2009: The town of Bladenboro is awarded $1 million in grants to assist with improvements in the water system at the industrial park.
