— Sept. 27, 1967: Mollie Bridger, a senior at Bladenboro High School, is selected as Miss Bladenboro from among 44 contestants. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Bridger.
— Sept. 28, 1978: The annual Clarkton Tobacco Festival Beauty Pageant will feature a performance by former Miss North Carolina Kathy Fleming.
— Sept. 28, 1987: Harry Dowless of Elizabethtown is awarded $1 million by a federal jury for a product improvement suggestion he made to an Ohio pump manufacturer in 1977.
— Sept. 26, 2003: East Bladen’s Kevin Richardson is named the state’s Class 2-A Pizza Hut Player of the Week after he rushed for 246 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries in a 35-32 win over previously undefeated and state-ranked South Columbus High.
— Sept. 26, 2008: The Bladen County Board of Education votes 5-4 against a motion to extend the contract of Supt. Ken Dinkins.
