— Sept. 6, 1967: Mary Elizabeth “Betsy” Cain, 21, of White Oak is crowned Miss Bladen County. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Cain.
— Sept. 7, 1978: Century Mills, which is a subsidiary of Kayser Roth, one of the nation’s largest clothing manufacturers, is considering a plant in the White Oak area.
— Sept. 7, 1987: West Point Pepperell and D&H Manufacturing of Elizabethtown each received a Job Service Employer Award from the Employment Security Commission of North Carolina.
— Sept. 5, 2003: The owners of Fisher’s Men’s Store and The Ladies Shop announce they will close the Bladenboro stores, leaving the town after more than 40 years of service.
