Do you believe God loves you? Or do you think God is out to get you … to punish you for something “bad” that you’ve done? Here is this week’s story …

“Remember the Duck.” Author is unknown.
Johnny was visiting his grandparents on their farm. One day he was given a slingshot to play with, out in the woods. So off to the woods he went with his new slingshot. Though he practiced for several hours in the woods, he could never hit the target. Discouraged, Johnny headed back to the house for dinner.
As he was walking back, he saw Grandma’s pet duck. Out of impulse, he tried his slingshot one more time, and hit the duck square in the head and killed it. Johnny was shocked and grieved. In a panic, he hid the dead duck in the wood pile, only to look up and see his sister watching. Sally had seen it all, but she said nothing.
After lunch that day, Grandma said, “Sally, let’s wash the dishes.” But Sally said, “Grandma, Johnny told me he wanted to help in the kitchen today. Didn’t you Johnny?” And she whispered to him, “Remember the duck.” So Johnny did the dishes.
Later, Grandpa asked if the children wanted to go fishing. Grandma said, “I’m sorry, but I need Sally to help me make supper.” But Sally smiled and said, “That’s all taken care of. Johnny told me he wanted to help you cook supper. Didn’t you Johnny?” And again she whispered, “Remember the duck.” So Johnny stayed to cook while Sally went fishing.
After several days of Johnny doing both his chores and Sally’s, finally he couldn’t stand it any longer. He went to Grandma and confessed that he’d killed her pet duck and buried it in the woodpile.
“I know, Johnny,” she said, as she knelt and gave him a hug. “Sweetheart, I was standing at the window and saw the whole thing. Because I love you, I forgave you. I’ve been wondering how long you were going to let Sally make a slave of you.”
If Satan is holding your past against you, please know that whatever you’ve done, God was standing at the window and He saw the whole thing. Because He loves you, He is ready to forgive you.
Don’t listen to Satan’s accusing “whispers” for another minute. Satan is a liar. Actually, Satan is the father of all lies. You want truth? Here’s the truth. Regardless of what you may have said or done; God will forgive you. Your sins are not too big for God. You want more truth? God loves you. Yes, God loves you. That’s the truth. So my question is, “How long are you going to let Satan make a slave of you?”
He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.—Psalm 103:10-12

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.—Romans 5:8 [NKJV]

In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.—1 John 4:10 [NKJV]

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.—John 3:16 [NKJV]
