— There will be a Realy for Life breakfast at the Lisbon Community Clubhouse from 6:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. The clubhouse is located at the intersection of Lisbon and White Plains Church Roads next to the fire station.

— There will be a Longleaf Pine Workshop and Field Trip at the N.C. —There will be a Veteran’s Day celebration at the National Guard Armory in Elizabethtown. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. The keynote speaker will be Cpt. Michael Jones. US Army National Guard. There will be a performance by the East Bladen High School Band and Adam Rutland of West Bladen High School will sing the national anthem. There will also be a wreath laying ceremony and recogninition of al lveterans. The drill teams from East Bladen High School, the Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy and West Bladen High School will also perform. The armory is located at 1001 Swanzy Street, Elizabethtown.


— The next meeting of the Compassionate Friends Border Belt chapter is 7 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church Fellowship Hall, 105 Madison Street, Whiteville. Grieving parents, if you’ve experienced the death of a child you’re invited to attend. This month’s meeting will focus on our feelings in our grief. The Compassionate Friends is a self help group for parents whose children have died- at any age, from any cause. — There will be a Veteran’s Day ceremony at 2 p.m. at the Bladenboro Historical Society Building in Bladenboro. The guest speaker will be Arthur Schull. There will also be singers, performers and local leaders speaking.

— There will be a meetign of the Bladen County Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisors at 8 a.m. in the McDuffie Library at the Powell-Melvin Agriculture Building located on Smith Circle in Elizabethtown. For more information call 910-8962-4591, ext. 3.

— The “Cool Schools” Motorcycle Festival will be held at the Elizabethtown Middle School football field. Gates will open at 9:30 a.m. and kickstands up at 11:30 a.m. There will be prizes, food, games, crafts, and more. There will also be student performances and talent and entertainment. — The Elizabethtown-White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce will hold their luncheon meeting at the Cape Fear Farmer’s Market in Elizabethtown at noon.


— The North Carolina Cooperative Extension and NCDA&CS are co-sponsoring a Pesticide Disposal Collection Day at the Powell-Melvin Agricultural Service Center located at 450 Smith Circle Drive, Elizabethtown, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Any pesticides (insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, etc.) that are in original containers and clearly labeled can be brought for collection. There is no charge for this service; however, we cannot accept products with unknown identities, products that are unlabeled, or products not in pesticide containers. — There will be an informational meeting from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. at the White Lake Town Hall regarding plans to construct a multi-use path at White Lake. The loop will be designed for use by walkers, joggers, bicyclists, wheelchairs and folks with baby strollers. The meeting is open to the public. The White Lake Town Hall is located at 1879 White Lake Drive, White Lake.

— There will be a benefit ride at Hickory Grove Fire Department for Joey Merritt. In addition to the ride, there will also be a plate sale, raffle, 50/50 drawing, craft sales and more. Registration for the ride will take place from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Kickstands up at 11 a.m. Cost is $20 per bike and $25 for double. The plate sale will begin at 11 a.m. All proceeds go to help with medical expenses. Merritt suffered a stroke on Oct. 8.


— The 4K4 Food fundraiser will take place at the Elizabethtown Industrial Park at 9 a.m. in Elizabethtown. Registration is $15 individuals and $30 for families. Late registration begins at 7 a.m. on race day with a $5 late fee. Strollers are welcome. All proceeds benefit Bladen Crisis Assistance. Return entry forms to Healthworks Fitness & Wellness. Submit registrations forms by Friday, Nov. 7, to be guaranteed a T-shirt.

— The Elizabethtown-White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is now accepting application for the upcoming 2014 Christmas Parade to be held on Sunday, Nov. 30, at 3 p.m. in downtown Elizabethtown. Parade line up begins at 1 p.m. at the Elizabethtown Municipal Building along King Street. Applications can be obtained by calling the Chamber office at 910-862-4368.

— Entries are now being accepted for the annual Bladenboro Christmas Parade which is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6. — Applications are now being accepted for the 8th annual Miss Bladen County Youth Focus project pageant. The event will take place at the Paul R. Brown Building located at 1360 Martin Luther King Drive, Elizabethtown. Ages and 5 years and older may participate. Application deadline is Dec. 13.

— There will be a Kyle Cashwell Turkey Shoot Benefit hosted by Garland Hardware beginning at 6:30 p.m. Cashwell suffered severe injuries in a farming accident and all proceeds will go to Kyle Cashwell and his family for medical and travel expenses. The turkey shoot will take place every Friday and Saturday night through December at the AJ Family Farm Market Located at 15737 Garland Highway (U.S. 701 North) near Garland.

— There will be a Kyle Cashwell Mini Tractor Pull and Bake Sale event at 1 p.m. at Kyle’s Farm in Harrells. Kyle Cashwell is a Sampson County paramedic, husband and father of three children who was severely injured in a farming accident. He is currently in the ICU at Duke Medicla Center in Durham. — The Baltimore Center Head Start is accepting applications for children who will be 3 to 4 years of age by Aug. 31. Applications for children with special needs are also being accepted. They are students of Professor Joseph Begnaud who is associate professor of Art at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
