AMMON — The Windsor United Methodist Church is having an Old-Fashion Chicken and Pastry Dinner Fund-raiser on Saturday, April 12, from 4 until 8 p.m.

The meal will consist of chicken and pastry, green beans, slaw, roll, cake, tea or coffee.

An auction will take place at 6 p.m. with Jimmie Smith, auctioneer, and his team. Items to be auctioned will include homemade cakes, pies, and more.

The food bank at Windsor UMC opened its doors in January 2012. It has continued to grow since that time. When it opened, 25 people came. In March 2014, 209 people were being served by the food bank, feeding about 450 households.

Some anonymous donors in Bladen County contributed towards the purchase of a used truck to transport pallets of food from Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeastern North Carolina to Windsor UMC Food Bank for distribution. The food bank is open every third Saturday of each month.

Funds from the dinner will be used for miscellaneous expenses on the truck and to buy extra food for the food bank.

“We would like to thank each person who has agreed to donate something for the dinner or contributed in the purchase of the truck,” said Loretta Harris, director of the food bank.

Everyone is encouraged to attend the dinner and auction Saturday.
