EAST ARCADIA — The Community Healthy Activities Project is now under way in East Arcadia. CHAP addresses the needs for increased opportunities for physical activity and improved parks and recreational facilities.

In year one, the program was focused in the town of Bladenboro where it was a tremendous success. Program Coordinator Britt Huggins worked with the civic organizations, church groups, and community members to help provide BeastFest 5K Fun Run, Bladen County Crazy Color Run, softball tournaments at Wateree Park, golf tournaments, Carolina Panthers Junior Training Camp for students at Bladenboro Primary School, and a huge revitalization of Wateree Park.

Now, in year two, CHAP is working in the community of East Arcadia. Helping to encourage physical activity and consequently reducing the rates of chronic disease in Bladen County. CHAP is working to develop walking trails throughout the community, providing open gym nights for kids/teenagers, and collaborating with churches, schools, and civic organizations to provide sustainability for activity in East Arcadia.

CHAP is funded through the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust Fund.
