ELIZABETHTOWN — A case of hide and seek proved fruitful for Elizabethtown Police this week, though the individual being sought wasn’t the one who was found.

According to Police Chief Bobby Kinlaw, officers were out on Tuesday at about 3:10 p.m. searching along Martin Street for an individual who had outstanding warrants.

“While officers were searching for that individual, they observed a subject flee into the woods,” Kinlaw said. “The officers gave chase and observed the subject throw objects to the ground.”

Kinlaw said the officers caught the individual and, when they went back to see what he had thrown to the ground, they found several small baggies of marijuana, digital scales and a .22-caliber H&R revolver.

Arrested was Carlton Terrell Smith, 22, of Elizabethtown, who was charged with felony possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana, felony manufacture of marijuana, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia and resist/delay/obstruct an officer.

Smith was booked into the Bladen County Jail and remains under a $35,000 secured bond.

Kinlaw said that additional charges are pending.

As for the individual originally being sought by officers, Kinlaw said that search continues.

“This was not the same subject officers were looking for,” he said. “That subject has not been located yet.”
