DUBLIN — The Bladen Community College Writers series, which brings professional writers to the college, will kick off on Wednesday, Sept. 18, when award-winning poet and short story writer Maureen Sherbondy comes calling.

Sherbondy will present a program and read from her works at 11 a.m. in the BCC Library. The public is invited.

A Raleigh resident, Sherbondy has been a prolific member of the state’s literary community and her works have appeared in more than 100 publications in the last decade. Her latest books of poetry, Eulogy of an Imperfect Man (Brick Road Poetry Press, 2012) and The Year of Dead Fathers (Spring Garden Press, 2012), earned high praise from literary critics. Prior to these, she had four other books of poetry published since 2007. They include After the Fairy Tale (Main Street Rag Press, 2007); Praying at Coffee Shops (Main Street Rag Press, 2008); Weary Blues (Big Table Publishing, 2010); and Scar Girl (Finishing Line Press, 2011).

She has also published a number of short stories and essays in literary journals, including The North Carolina Literary Review, Southeast Review, Carolina Woman, moonShine Review, Puffin Circus and others.

She has worked as a guest presenter, lecturer and instructor in a number of locations around North Carolina and in neighboring states

Sherbondy earned her undergraduate degree from Rutgers University and a master of fine arts in poetry from Queens University in Charlotte
