Aug. 16

— The Jerusalem Youth Ministry presents Youth Explosion 2014 at 4 p.m. at E.J. Cox Park in Clarkton. The theme is “Taking the Lead” and the Stepping to Heaven step team will make their debut. All youth groups, singers, praise dancers, twirlers and steppers are invited to attend.

— The Sandhill Mass Choir will have a musical celebration at 6 p.m. There will be many local groups on hand to help with this celebration. Light refreshments will be served.

— White Plains Presbyterian Church will have Vacation Bible School from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Classes are available for ages 2 to to 92. Preregistration is appreciated so that we can provide food for lunch and craft materials. To register, call 910-234-0512. The church is located at 6049 White Plains Church Road, Council.

— New Zion AME Zion Church will celebrate homecoming at 4 p.m. The Rev. Vincent Mears and his choir and congregation will be the guests. The church is located at 2533 Lisbon Road in the Lisbon community.

Aug. 17

—Women’s Day will be observed at White’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church during the morning worship service at 11 a.m.The morning speaker will be Min. Glenda Lenn of Sandhill Missionary Baptist Church. The public is invited to attend. The church is located at 6838 Airport Road in the Lisbon community.

— Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Council will be celebrating Family and Friends Day at 11 a.m. The guests will be Pas. Delora Lesane and Greater McKoy’s Chapel Church of Dublin. Dinner will be served after the morning service. There will be no afternoon service. Everyone is invited to attend. The church is located at 851 S. Braddy Plantation Road, Council.

— A youth worship service will be held at 11 a.m. at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Council. The guest speaker will Min. Manny Hayes and the G.A.N.G. (God’s Anointed New Generation) of Kingdom Impact Ministries, Fayetteville. Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church is located at 10133 Highway 211 East, Council.

— True Vine Holiness Church will celebrate Pas. Luel M. Campbell’s 40th anniversary with a musical program. Special guest will be The Sensational Nightingales originally of Philadelphia, Pa. now from Durham. Everyone is invited to attend. The church is located at 1503 Harrelson Road, Clarkton.

Aug. 23

— St. James United Holy Church of Council will be celebrating their pastor’s anniversary August 23 and 24. On Saturday, there will be a banquet at the church cafeteria at 6 p.m. and on Sunday at 11 a.m. the speaker will be Elder Larry C. McLean. Everyone is invited to attend.

Aug. 24

— The deacons of Sandhill will celebrate their Men’s Day at their 11 a.m. worship service. Sandhill MBC Pas. Donald Thompson will deliver the message for the program. All community men are invited to come and support a day of manhood. Refreshments will be served.

— The ushers of Pleasant Union MBC in East Arcadia will celebrate their anniversary at 4 p.m. The Rev. Jeremy Buie and the Mt. Zion MBC will render the service. Everyone is invited.

— There will be a gospel sing at the Liberty Worship Center in Clarkton during the 11 a.m. worship service featuring the The Browns of Wallace. Liberty Worship Center is located at 89 North Grove Street, Clarkton.

— White’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church will be having revival services beginning Monday, Aug. 25, and continuing through Friday, Aug. 29. The speaker will be the Rev. Munford Hamilton of South Carolina. The service will begin at 7:30 p.m. nightly. Various choirs will perform each night. Everyone is invited to attend. the church is located at 6838 Airport Road in the Lisbon community.

— Sandhill will have their birthday celebration for the months of July, August and September during their morning worship service.

Sept. 7

— Piney Grove A.M.E. Zion Church in Clarkton will be celebrating their annual homecoming Sunday, Sept. 7, at 4 p.m. The theme is “Spreading the Good News At Home” Mark 5:19. The guest preacher will be the Rev. Staccato Powell, pastor of the Grace A.M.E. Zion Church, Raleigh. Everyone is invited to attend.

— The Clarkton PFWB Church will host The New Believers of Whiteville at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend and bring a friend.

Sept. 21

— White’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church’s Voices of Praise will celebrate 28th anniversary at 3:30 p.m. Guests include Sensational Friendly 5 of Bunn Level the Singing Miracles and So Glad the Lord Let Me Live On. The church is located at 6838 Airport Road, Elizabethtown.

Sept. 28

— St. John AME Zion Church will celebrate homecoming with the Rev. Jimmy Melvin bringing the message at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served. The Rev. Ronald Miller and his congregation from St. James AME Zion Church of Goldsboro will render the evening service at 3 p.m.

— The Community Outreach Evangelistic Ministry/Vertical Church meets every Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Elizabethtown Deliverance Evangelistic Center at 412 A Peanut Plant Road, Elizabethtown. There will be worship, Bible teaching/videos, prayer and refreshments. transportation will be provided for Elizabethtown residents.
