This letter is written to praise the success of the 2014 County Convention of the Bladen County Republican Party that was held in March. There were over 70 people in attendance, including 30 delegates. The purpose of the County Convention was to elect delegates that attended our District Convention in April and that will attend our State Convention in June.
Not only did we elect delegates to the NCGOP Convention, but we also heard from the following candidates and elected officials:
Candidates: Dr. Edward Kryn, U.S. Senate; Dr. Greg Brannon, U.S. Senate; the Rev. Mark Harris, U.S. Senate, represented by Kincy Barrow; Woody White, U.S. Congress District 7, represented by Tammy White; David Rouzer, U.S. Congress District 7; Chris Andrade, U.S. Congress District 7; Brenden Jones, N.C. House, District 46; Ken Smith, U.S. House, District 22; Willie (Fred) Gore, 13th Judicial District Court Judge (non-partisan office); Ryan Smithwick, District Attorney; Jim McVicker, Bladen County Sheriff; Dennis Edwards, Bladen County Board of Education.
Elected officials: Bill Rabon, N.C. Senate; Jon David, District Attorney; John Szoka, N.C. House; Paul Holcombe, 11th Judicial District Court Judge, candidate for N.C. Court of Appeals; Ray Britt, Bladen County Board of Elections; Bobby Ludlum, Bladen County Board of Elections
Our special guest speaker — N.C. Rep. John Szoka — spoke about the success of our Republican Gov. Pat McCrory as well as the hard work of our elected representatives and senators. These successes include: Voter ID legislation, fewer government regulations for businesses, and lower taxes.
Perhaps one of the greatest highlights of the Convention was the special pound cake that was prepared by Sylvia Pait of the Dublin community. According to some, Mrs. Pait’s pound cake is the best cake in southeastern North Carolina (and perhaps the best in the state).
A special thanks is extended to all those who made the Convention a success; specifically, Barbara Hines, Wayne Thompson, Audrey Hehl, Heather Bobbey, and Jason Britt. And, many thanks to all the delegates, candidates, and elected officials who attended and took part in one of the best conventions of the Bladen County Republican Party.
