ELIZABETHTOWN — There will be a gospel sing to benefit Cody Clark on Saturday, March 22, at 7 p.m. at the Elizabethtown Middle School. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 at the door.

Clark is a 6-year-old who is battling a brain tumor that was diagnozed shortly before Christmas. He is a student at Bladen Lakes Primary School. His parents are Chris and Tina Clark of Garland.

Guest artists include Danny Jeffers, the Locklears, the McNeills, Friends of Jesus, and the Unity Quartet of Pembroke.

The Rev. Bill Jackson, who is assisting with the fund-raiser, said that the organizers got involved with the family of Cody Clark after seeing Praying for Cody signs.

“I kept seeing signs that said, ‘Praying for Cody.’ I didn’t know if it was a service man overseas or what,” said Jackson.

He said when he spotted a jar asking for donations in The Corner Cafe, he asked about it. Jackson said that was how he learned about Cody’s story.

Jackson said he began asking questions about Cody and his illness and he eventually was put into contact with Cody’s grandfather.

“I wanted to let him know we are praying for Cody,” said Jackson.

He said that he anointed a prayer shawl for Cody and gave it to his grandfather who took it and gave it to Cody.

“I asked if there was something we could do for the family,” said Jackson. “He put me in contact with Dawn Pilander.”

Jackson said that Pilander has been assisting in the organizing of this event.
