LOUISVILLE, Ky. — More than 6,000 outstanding career and technical education students from around the country –– all state contest winners, including from Bladen Community College –– competed hands-on recently in 100 different trade, technical and leadership fields at the SkillsUSA competition.
Students worked against the clock and each other, proving their expertise in occupations such as electronics, computer-aided drafting, precision machining, medical assisting and culinary arts. Contests were run with the help of industry, trade associations and labor organizations, and test competencies were set by industry.
Bladen Community College was represented at the competition, and two welding students brought home honors.
Jonathan Lashley won the bronze medal in Welding Art/Sculpture, and Darrian Hicks won bronze in Job Skills Demonstration.
These BCC welding students worked many hours on their discipline, and they have reached a level accomplished by only a few in the nation.
