ELIXABETHTOWN — Madison McLamb, a rising sophomore at the University of Mount Olive, has joined the Bladen Journal staff as a summer intern.

McLamb’s internship is part of the Golden LEAF Foundation’s Scholars Leadership Program, and will keep her with the newspaper for 12 weeks.

“We’re pleased and excited about having Madison learn the newspaper industry from the ground up here at her hometown paper,” said W. Curt Vincent, general manager/editor of the Bladen Journal. “Right from the start she has seemed energetic, ambitious and eager to learn.”

McLamb is a resident of Tar Heel and 2015 graduate of West Bladen High, where she was part of the cheerleading group, Dream Team and FCCLA. At the University of Mount Olive, she is majoring in English.

“I’m looking forward to experiencing the process of newspaper work, because I want to see if it’s something I want to pursue after college,” McLamb said. “I’m excited because it’s in my community, so I know the people and the area so well.”

The University of Mount Olive plans to start a student newspaper in the fall called The Olive Press, and McLamb is hoping to be a part of that when she returns to school.

McLamb will be writing a wide variety of stories for the Bladen Journal — from news to features — and can be reached by calling 910-862-4163 during regular business hours.
