As the hub of resources for Sampson Community College students, the Academic Success Center (ASC) is designed to maximize student achievement.

“The ASC provides multiple opportunities to assist students in achieving academic success and accomplishing their goals. It is a place where students can go to for tutoring, from both professionals and peers. Overall, it is a place that provides opportunities for students to be successful in their classes” states Carole Phipps, Division Chair of Arts and Sciences. “The ASC is a place where students can have passwords reset, receive technology assistance, printing services, work within the open computer lab, and enjoy a workspace to study alone or with a group. The success of our students is our number one priority. Our goal is to support them along the way in their educational journey by providing opportunities for them to better prepare themselves for the workplace or a four-year university.”

Since opening in January 2015, 226 different students have taken advantage of the opportunities provided by the ASC. It is anticipated that as the resources and awareness continue to grow, so will the participants. Future opportunities include additional academic support, not only for students, but also for faculty and staff by offering more professional development opportunities.

Donna Odom, Director of Library Services includes, “It is our goal to provide all students with the resources they need in order to succeed. By incorporating the library with the Academic Success Center, these resources are convenient and easily accessible. We hope to expand services and offerings by responding to the needs of students and faculty to assist them in achieving academic and personal goals.”

Located downstairs in the Kitchin Building, within the Library, this central location offers an array of resources with the goal to enhance learning and increase overall student success. Open from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Friday, all currently enrolled curriculum students are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity on campus.
