Washington inmate impales leg while fleeing

SEATTLE (AP) — Authorities say a jail inmate is back in custody after he bolted from law enforcement in downtown Seattle and then impaled his thigh on a fence while running away.

King County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Cindi West says detectives checked the man out of jail Friday to do an interview with them in a county administration building.

Afterward, the man, who was wearing belly-chains, took off running.

Detectives say they initially lost track of him but then heard someone yelling for help. West says soon after, they found the man with his thigh impaled on a fence.

West says the inmate was taken to a local hospital for treatment and then will return to jail.

The suspect is in custody on a Seattle police case and is also a suspect in a carjacking in the city of SeaTac.
