According to Sheriff Jim McVicker, the Bladen County 911 Center received a call at about 3:02 a.m. from Kelly Dwayne Hamilton, 41, from his residence off Singletary Mill Pond Road who said a friend had accidentally shot herself.

“Hamilton said the two had been watching a movie when (the victim) went to move a weapon that was loaded and laying on a coffee table,” McVicker said. “He said when she did, the gun went off, striking her fatally.”

The victim was identified as Crystal Lynn McLamb, 44.

Officers responding t the call found McLamb on the couch in the living room and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Bladen County Coroner Hubert Kinlaw has requested an autopsy, which was expected to be performed on Friday in Raleigh by the state’s chief medical examiner’s office.

“Our investigation is ongoing at this time,” said McVicker. “We are waiting for autopsy results and for other forensic evidence to be analyzed. We are in close communication with the District Attorney’s Office (and) I expect the investigation to be completed in the next few days.”
