BURGAW (WWAY) — A Pender County man will likely spend the rest of his life in prison after being convicted of several sex crimes involving children.

According to a news release from the District Attorney’s Office, a Pender County jury late yesterday convicted Roy Lee Stubbs, 48, of three counts of sex offense with a child, one count of second degree sexual exploitation of a minor and two counts of felony secret peeping. The DA’s Office says the trial involved testimony from two of Stubbs’s victims.

The jury found that Stubbs sexually molested a female victim over the course of a 3.5-year period from 2010-2013 when the she was 9, 10, 11 and 12 years old. The other victim, now an adult, was able to provide testimony regarding her abuse by Stubbs over a decade ago.

Investigators arrested Stubbs in the fall of 2013.

Judge Jay Hockenbury sentenced Stubbs to 50-65 years in prison. Stubbs will also be subject to satellite-based monitoring and have to register as a sex offender.
