BURGAW — An Alamance County man is accused of using an axe during a Pender County home break-in early Tuesday morning.

According to the Pender County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home on Hwy 53 east of Burgaw around 3 a.m. after receiving a report of a burglary in progress.

Deputies say Tyler Nathaniel Turner, 18, of Snow Camp, kicked in the door of the elderly woman’s home, grabbed an axe, and busted through a bedroom door.

The victim was uninjured during the incident.

Turner was, however, injured in an earlier confrontation with another individual on I-40 where he was forced to jump from a moving vehicle.

Turner was taken to Pender Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released into police custody.

He’s charged with first-degree burglary, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and damage to real property.
