In response to requests for additional details, what follows is further information about the recommendation submitted at Monday night’s Board of Education meeting. The report was only a recommendation, and board members took no action on it. Under the recommendation:

—- 151 students from Plain View would be moved to Dublin Primary, bringing its total to 419 students, excluding pre-K.

— 35 students from Booker T. Washington would be moved to Bladenboro Primary, bringing its total to 419 students, excluding pre-K.

— 88 students from Booker T. Washington would be relocated to East Arcadia, bringing its total to 171 students.

— 35 students from Booker T. Washington would be moved to Elizabethtown Primary, for a total at that site of 453 students.

— 17 students from Booker T. Washington and 50 students from Clarkton School of Discovery in grades 5-8 would be relocated to Bladenboro Middle School, bringing its total to 381 students.

— 37 students from East Arcadia and 175 students from Clarkton School of Discovery in grades 6-8 would be moved to Elizabethtown Middle School, for a total at that site of 641 students.

— 107 students from Elizabethtown Primary would be moved to Bladen Lakes Primary, for a total of 350 students.

None of the numbers above reflect pre-K numbers, which would add to the number being moved.

— 10 classrooms would be added to Bladen Lakes Primary, and eight classes to Dublin Primary at a combined cost of $875,000-$1.1 million.

Phase two, it was stressed at the meeting, is vital to implementing phase one, and is dependent on approval by the Bladen County Board of Commissioners. In it, a new K-8 building would be constructed to house approximately 700 current Tar Heel Middle, Dublin, and Plain View students. A second new building would be constructed to house approximately 600 current Clarkton School of Discovery, East Arcadia, and Booker T. Washington students. In addition, a combined pre-K and educational resource center would be constructed to house approximately 100 pre-K students and to replace the current Extended Hope. No estimate was given for the construction of new buildings, nor was any site suggested.

Phase one is expected to be implemented in the 2017/2018 school year.
