The State of N.C. Internship Program offers students real-world experience in a wide range of state government workplaces. Internships provide opportunities for students to work in their chosen field and to consider careers in public service. More than 4,000 students have participated since the program was established in 1969.

“These paid internships open doors for students throughout state government. We offer an array of fun and professional work experiences across North Carolina from the mountains to the sea,” said Candace Dudley, Internship Coordinator of the Council for Women & Involvement Office. The internships are designed to integrate education, career development, and public service. Opportunities exist in numerous recognized fields of study, from accounting to zoology. Interns will also participate in other activities that broaden their view of public service and state government, such as seminars and tours.

Interns are selected through a competitive process overseen by the N.C. Internship Council. Selection is based on a thorough review of applications, including academic records and interest in state government. Qualified candidates may be selected to interview with prospective supervisors, and matches are made.
