RALEIGH – Eighteen N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles Driver License offices and License Plate Agency offices across eastern and central North Carolina are closed Wednesday due to the effects of Hurricane Matthew.

Flooding and power outages have forced many offices to close. DMV field office staff have assessed damage as relief efforts continue. Several offices that were closed earlier in the week re-opened Wednesday, but other field offices may remain closed for the remainder of the week.

Driver License offices are closed until further notice in the following locations: Burgaw, Edenton, Elizabethtown, Lumberton, Pembroke, Goldsboro, Mount Olive, Tarboro and Erwin.

License Plate Agency offices are closed until further notice in the following locations: Hookerton, Kinston, Windsor, Lumberton, Whiteville, Mount Olive, Rocky Mount and Tarboro.

The scheduled visit by a Driver License mobile unit will not take place Wednesday in Columbia.

Meanwhile, nearly 50 License and Theft agents continue to assist local law enforcement in providing security to affected areas.

The License and Theft Bureau is a member of the State Emergency Response Team (SERT), which includes assisting the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Management Administration, and state and local authorities. Bureau agents also assist local law enforcement in carrying out routine police duties, as well as to supplement local agency needs during a declared state of emergency.
