PHOENIX (AP) — A Colorado woman has completed an 82-mile swim across Lake Powell that took her 56 hours.

Sarah Thomas tells The Associated Press she was exhausted and hungry after completing the swim. Thomas didn’t stop swimming or get out of water the entire time, allowing her to qualify for a record for an unassisted marathon swim.

She had a team of 13 people with her who traveled by boat and delivered her food every half hour, which consisted of two liquid carbohydrate and electrolyte mixtures. The swim is grueling. Thomas says it was difficult to walk afterward because her feet and body were so shaky.

Thomas of Conifer, Colorado, had performed marathon swims previously but never as long as her journey on Lake Powell along the Arizona-Utah border.
