Incumbents, newcomers look to fill municipal ballots


ELIZABETHTOWN — With just a few days left to go in the municipal election filing period, folks are continuing to make their way to the Board of Elections Office to file for elected office. Several incumbents are being joined by a few new faces.

The filing period ends at noon on Friday.

In Bladenboro, newcomer Larry Hayes has filed for election to one of the three town commissioner’s seats and he is joined by incumbents Everett Butler and Sarah Jane Benson. Newcomer Don White has filed seeking election to the unexpired term in Bladenboro. Newcomer Gene Norton filed earlier seeking election to one of the three town commissioner’s seats.

In Dublin, incumbent mayor Horace Wyatt has filed seeking re-election and incumbents T. David Hursey, David Kirby filed seeking re-election to their seats. They are joined by newcomer Robert Johnson Britt.

In East Arcadia, incumbent Mayor Perry Blanks filed seeking re-election and he is joined by incumbent commissioner Carlee Carter. Earlier, incumbent commissioner Horace Munn filed seeking re-election to his seat. There is also an unexpired term in East Arcadia, which as of noon on Wednesday, no one had filed seeking election to that seat as of noon on Wednesday.

In Clarkton, there is one town commissioner seat and the mayor’s seat available. As of noon on Wednesday, no one has filed seeking election to the town commissioner’s seat. Earlier, incumbent Mayor Arthur Whedbee filed seeking re-election to his seat.

As of noon on Wednesday, in Tar Heel, the mayor’s seat and three town commissioner’s seats are available. As of noon Wednesday, no one had filed for those seats.

In White Lake, the mayor’s seat and three town commissioner seats are available. Incumbent Mayor Goldston Womble has filed for re-election and incumbent town commissioners Tracey Scott Trivette, Tom Riel and Don Smith have all filed seeking re-election to their seats. They are joined by new comer Tim Clifton who has filed seeking election to one of the town commissioner’s seats.

In Elizabethtown the mayor’s seat and three town council member seats are up for grabs, and incumbent Mayor Sylvia Campbell has filed for re-election to her seat along with incumbent councilmen Dicky Glenn, Ricky Leinwand and Darrell Page.

Folks who are filing either for Bladenboro or East Arcadia’s town commissioner seats need to notify the election office staff whether they filing for one of the unexpired terms or for one of the four-year terms.
