ELIZABETHTOWN — In the South, we love some pork, especially when it’s prepared by one of our own great chefs, cooked over an open flame. Such will be the case next week, when the Elizabethtown Baptist Church youth group cranks up the grill for a Boston Butt sale to benefit a mission trip to New York City this summer.

The chef for the day will be Basil White, a Bladen County native known, along with his wife, Pat, for his culinary skills with his massive grill, and he will be preparing Boston butts, the most common cut of meat used for pulled pork.

Boston butts will be ready for pickup at Elizabethtown Baptist on Friday, June 17, and leaders have planned the pickup time to coincide with dinner, between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for a roughly 9-lb. shoulder.

The group is also hosting a steak dinner on Sunday, July 10, the tickets for which are $15. Diners can eat in or take out. Included are a salad, steak, baked potato, roll, dessert, and tea.

Anyone interested in obtaining Boston butt or steak dinner ticket(s) may contact Chrysta Carroll at 910-991-1660.
