BLADENBORO — On Sunday, in agreement with Jesus’ benediction “Blessed are the peacemakers,” Center Road Baptist Church held a Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.
“I think it went very well,” said Center Road Pastor DeWayne Lambeth. “We had about 220 or 250 in the service and fed about 180 people afterward.”
The church prepared plaques that read “In recognition and appreciation for your service in law enforcement” and, since they did not know who or how many would be in attendance, they prepared plaques for every officer in Bladen County.
“We had a lot of plaques,” Lambeth said.
The church began the ceremony last year to coincide, as it did this year, with National Police Officers Week.
“It just seems like in society, we have everything flipped upside down,” Lambeth stated. “Drug dealers are victims and the police are the bad guys. We sleep under their blanket of protection, and we just wanted to let them know how much we love and appreciate them.”
