Annual Spring Fest set for April 30

Staff report

BLADENBORO — Boost the Boro, Inc. will host its 2016 Spring Fest event on Saturday, April 30, at the Bladenboro Farmer’s Market in downtown Bladenboro.

“We are very excited about our annual event this year and have decided to combine the event this year with the Master Gardener’s annual plant sale,” said Don White, president of Boost the Boro, Inc. “Historically, both of these events usually draw a large crowd of people. We decided to put these two events together and bring in some live entertainment in the afternoon and give something back to our community.

“If you like good food, good music and an opportunity to maybe find that perfect landscape plant you’ve been looking for, then this is the place to be,” he added.

According to White, the day will look something like this:

— The day will begin bright and early at 8 a.m. until noon with the Master Gardener’s annual plant sale. “These dedicated local gardeners will have for sale a variety of homegrown and nurtured landscape and vegetable plants that are now ready to be transplanted into your garden,” White said. “And you will not find better prices anywhere, but make sure come early.”

— Starting at noon the annual “Grilled BBQ chicken and all the Fixin’s” plate sale will start. “This event is scheduled to go until 4 p.m. or, as last year’s event, until we run out,” White said. Boost the Boro members will be selling tickets for $7 each. Plates will also be available for purchase on-site, plus there will be tables, chairs and tents set up for folks to enjoy the meal — or you can pick-up and take out. “Also, if you want to pick up some of the best desserts money can buy, try our bake sale of pies, cookies and cakes inside the Farmer’s Market,” White added.

— Running from 1 to 4 p.m. will be the popular local band “Loose Floorboards,” which has been playing together for about 20 years and will be entertaining the crowds with a wide genre of classic rock, country, oldies and beach.

Boost the Boro, Inc is a local community organization, now in its 10th year. It meets on the second Tuesday of each month at the Bladenboro Farmer’s Market and would welcome new members from the surrounding community. If interested, see one of the group’s members or send a message to Don White’s Facebook page for more information.
