LUMBERTON — Investigators are working to determine why a Bladenboro woman killed in a wreck near Lumberton on Tuesday afternoon crossed into oncoming traffic, according to the state Highway Patrol.

According to a report filed by Trooper G.F. Inman, 43-year-old Michelle Williamson Hughes, of Grace Street in Bladenboro, was driving toward Lumberton on N.C. 72 near Hestertown Road when her vehicle crossed the center-line and struck another car head-on.

The driver of the other vehicle, 62-year-old Rudolph Jones, of Popes Crossing Road in Lumberton, suffered minor injuries, the report said. Both Jones and Hughes were traveling alone.

According to the Highway Patrol, both motorists were traveling the speed limit and no charges are expected.
