ELIZABETHTOWN — Bladen County Sheriff Jim McVicker has reported information that a vehicle accident involving an on-duty Bladen County Sheriff’s Office deputy responding to a call and a civilian vehicle.

McVicker said the collision occurred at approximately 10:22 p.m. Monday night at the intersection of N.C. Hwy. 211 Bypass and N.C. Hwy. 410 just outside the city limits of Bladenboro.

McVicker said Deputy Robert Duggan was dispatched to an emergency call and was responding when his vehicle collided with another vehicle in the intersection. Deputy Duggan’s vehicle struck the other vehicle in the side. Deputy Duggan was transported to Bladen County Hospital where he was treated for injuries sustained in the collision and released.

McVicker said there were six people in the other vehicle involved. The driver was transported to Southeastern Regional Hospital in Lumberton. Four others were transported to Bladen County Hospital and the fifth person was airlifted from the scene to New Hanover Regional Hospital.

The collision investigation is being conducted by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol at the request of Sheriff McVicker. The investigation is ongoing and the Sheriff’s Office does not have the names, ages, addresses, or status of the other persons involved in the collision.
