ELIZABETHTOWN — The Elizabethtown Rotary Club met on Wednesday and recognized one of their members as a Paul Harris Fellow Plus One.

Rotarian Walter McDuffie was presented a special pin during the Wednesday luncheon meeting officially recognizing his accomplishment. McDuffie who has been a member of the club since the 1980s thanked the group and issued a challenge.

“I challenge each one of you to become a Paul Harris Fellow,” said McDuffie.

He was presented his pin by fellow Rotarian Greg Martin who serves as the local club foundation chairman.

The program for the day was presented by Marianne Valentiner and Berkleigh Pridgen of the Bladen County Health Department. They discussed the Healthy Bladen Collaborative/Healthy Communities Initiative.

Valentiner gave an overview of the development of the collaborative. She began by reminding those present of the former Bladen HealthWatch program and its development of a Sneaker Trail in the towns and the county.

She told the group present the Healthy Bladen Collaborative is a partnership between numerous agencies in the county designed to promote and improve the quality of life in Bladen County and its communities.
