Man rescued from sinking yacht in Masonboro Inlet


WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH (WECT) — The Coast Guard rescued a man Saturday morning from a sinking yacht in Masonboro Inlet.

The 60-foot yacht hit a rock jetty and then started taking on water while a 59-year-old man was on board.

The Wrightsville Beach Station received a mayday call at 9:37 a.m. and rescued the man within a matter of minutes.

He was not injured and was taken back to the Wrightsville Beach Coast Guard station.

The 60-foot-yacht, “Somewhere in Time” sank.

TowBoat U.S. has been notified to retrieve the yacht.
