WHITE OAK —Anyone who enjoys a good meal and some good music is sure to enjoy a new event being hosted by Harmony Hall Plantation Village in White Oak on Saturday.

The historical spot will be the site for a “Pickin’ N’ Eatin’” starting at 5:30 p.m.

Admission is free and the event is open to anyone who wants to attend. Folks are encouraged to bring a covered dish, bring your instrument, bring your friends, family and a lawn chair to enjoy an evening of food and music.

Harmony Hall spokesman Seth Lewis said all Bladen County pickers are invited to come and join in. He added folks don’t have to have any special musical training or be part of any particular musical group to be able to join in. Lewis said folks can sing, play or just sit back, relax and listen.

“There is a general interest in Bluegrass and country music in Bladen County,” said Lewis.

He said that the idea was sparked by a simple invitation to Larry King of Dublin to come out to Tory Hole Park and play. Lewis said the invitation began a separate conversation about having some type of event involving Bluegrass music at Harmony Hall.

“It’s just for fun,” said Lewis.

Lewis said that he and wife Phyllis attended a similar event in Carthage at the Maness Pottery and Music Barn recently. Lewis said between 300 and 400 people attend that event every week.

Lewis said the former pottery barn has been turned into a entertainment and education venue that plays host to all manner of music-related events. Lewis said at the Maness Pottery and Music Barn, folks eat and play music.

He said he felt folks in Bladen County would enjoy similar events here.

Harmony Hall Plantation Village is located at 1615 River Road, White Oak.
