ELIZABETHTOWN — Bladen County Democrats will meet on Saturday, June 10, at 10 a.m. at the Powell-Melvin Agricultural Service Center, 450 Smith Center Drive in Elizabethtown.

The meeting will feature two officials from the North Carolina Democratic Party Executive Committee — with special guest speakers to include 7th Congressional District Democratic Party Chairman Francisco Rivas-Diaz and 9th Congressional District Democratic Chairman Cynthia Wallace.

Diaz is a resident of Duplin County, and prior to becoming chair of the 7th district, he was elected as vice chair for the Duplin County Democratic Party and vice chair for the 7th District Democratic Party. He holds an associate’s degree in information systems and both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration. Diaz’s chief goal as district chair is to elect candidates who focus on issues facing the middle class, education, jobs, healthcare, the environment, minorities, and veterans.

Wallace, a resident of Charlotte, was re-elected as chair of the 9th District on May 20 and has been a member of the State Executive Committee since 2011. Her participation in the North Carolina Democratic Party has been significant and she has served at every level from precinct chair to being an elected delegate to the 2012 Democratic National Convention. Wallace holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Spelman College and a master’s of science in statistics from the University of North Florida.

All Democrats and interested citizens of our county are invited to attend, meet these special guests, and learn about Democratic Party plans for the 2018 and 2020 elections. There will be coffee, juice, doughnuts, and muffins available.
